Can't stop listening to lesbian and / or trans gendered rappers... well, that and occasionally slip into some mid 90's Ice Cube and Dre stuff.

Well that was just a friggin' awesome date. So me and the girlfriend went off to go to the Big Apple Con and I picked up some art work from Evan Dorkin and saw his wife, the ever talented Sarah Dyer and their adorable daughter, Emily (who was also drawing angry Moon Men). Seriously if you see a copy of Biff Bam Pow and like all ages comics, give it a try. If you like your humor dark as hell, try Evan's Dork. Sat around and chatted with them happily and then went on to see Rich Buckler. I browsed his art while chatting with him and then out of no where, Roy Thomas just walks up like nothing and cuts me off and speaks to Rich about a panel for tomorrow. Holy crap! Roy "The Boy"! I wish I had stuff for him to sign! He's written enough of my favorite Conan and Dr. Strange tales as it is.
So by this point the girlfriend is suffocating a bit and we do need to grab dinner because after that we were going tooooooooooooooo.......
The Stonewall Inn! They didn't turn us away for carrying straight cooties and I'm glad because we were there to see Kelli "Ex Nun on the Run" Dunham! She was so adorable! She apparently was special guest for spoken word artist Katz AKA Athens Boys Choir. Now my knowledge of Spoken word kind of ends around Henry Rollins (and I preferred him in Black Flag anyway!) but He fuckin' rocked! But I'm getting ahead of myself.
So, despite the nick name of Happypeepeehead, I actually never play with urine nor drink or anything like that, so to be in a bar is a very rare thing for me indeed. Secondly, to be in historic Stone Wall was something else altogether (though there was a sensation of Déjà Vu). Opener was Anaturale - while Hip Hop is not my thing usually Anaturale was lyrically intense but also had great beats and her vocals reminded me a little of M.C. Chris. So I either have ruined Anaturale for those who hate M.C. Chris or I made Anaturale sound interesting. Well, if M.C. Chris had gender fluid lyrics and what seems to me to be the out right fire that comes from being queer in the south, there you have it. Well that and some variety as well. It's mostly hip hop but some songs were trip hop, others more so out and out pop.![]()
Next was Kelli, rocking a cute little Parochial School sweater! It was so cute! She did sets that may be recognizable to those who have bought her CDs but she masterfully handled an extremely drunk crowd and worked it fine. I even got called on her for doing the gayest thing in the place by having a sketch book (Hey, my girlfriend was drawing, too... now she has the gay! Oh noez!). Isn't she adorable?![]()

Last up was the Athens Boys Choir and reading the reviews Kelli posted (since I admit, the only reason I wanted to go was because I wanted to see her) made me wonder... wha? Spoken word act? Meh, maybe we'll leave after Kelli's show. So glad we didn't. Katz (AKA Athens Boys Choir) freaking rocked! He was hilarious (I will never look at novelty squiggle pens the same again). A mix of some a capella spoken word, some electro, some hip hop and mixed with video art from his music videos as he progressively got more and more drunk on stage (I adore honest on stage mistakes. Keeps it human). NOT SAFE FOR WORK.

But all and all a great fuckin' time.
